Floating White Orb in My Hotel Room!

This was my first write-up on this incident. I have another here, a year after the event.

A ball of light came into my hotel room in Thailand yesterday as I was relaxing on the bed working on the computer! It was by FAR the most amazing experience I have ever had. However, I have had a number of weird happenings with lightning in the past. I’ll list them after the ball of light video at the bottom of this page.

First let me say this… I am being 100% truthful here. Sure, this site is called Mike Fook Fiction, but this is 100% truth, no fiction involved. No embellishment. I was thinking how I could explain to people how serious I am that this incident happened. Here’s what I came up with.

My daughter, my wife, my son, are the most important people to me in the world. I would much sooner die myself than ever see one of them harmed. If there was a platoon of soldiers going to shoot them full of lead if I lied or embellished, I would repeat exactly the same story below. What happened will seem so far-fetched that you won’t be able to wrap your head around it. I am STILL, even two years later, trying to do that. I don’t have any explanation at all for what the white ball of light was that floating through the glass of the window and into my hotel room that afternoon.

I don’t have photos or video of this event. That sucks. Yet, there was no time at all. It all happened in less than ten seconds from start to finish. I was stunned and so lucid – watching it intently. There was no time for thought, just watching as if I were experiencing the last few seconds of my life. I wasn’t afraid, there was no fear initially. Then when it had gone and I realized it could maybe be some sort of lightning, I was petrified with fear and my skin goosebumped on my arms and legs, and chills shot up and down my back.

I posted a video of exactly what happened below. I shot it in the hotel room shortly after the incident, and yet enough time had passed that I was able to shoot the video – which required walking over to the window where it happened.

Here’s the video and then the written description of the white ball of light (orb) entering my room in Surat Thani, Thailand yesterday as I first wrote it down in the computer:

Ball of Light in Hotel Room in Thailand Video:

* * * * *

4/15/13 17:25

During daylight hours, about 5 p.m., a small light – which formed into a ball of light, came into my hotel room on the fifth floor of the Liamsai Hotel in Surat Thani, Thailand – located in Southern Thailand, north of Phuket Island.

I was laying on the bed with my MacBook Air notebook computer. I was laying sideways facing the window and looking at the computer screen. It was raining lightly for twenty minutes before this happened. The sky was very dark some ten to thirty kilometers (6-18 miles) away, but where I was it was generally still light. I didn’t hear thunder before or after the incident, and there were no lightning strikes nearby either.

The air conditioner was located above the window. It was set at 25C. The vent was pointed straight down toward the floor – the vent was broken maybe. It didn’t swing, just pointed straight down. I heard the air conditioning unit begin to pulse in frequency from louder to very quiet, and then louder and very quiet. The cycle happened. I don’t know two to three times, maybe a couple more. I looked up to see – was the air conditioner going to explode? There was no smoke. No fire. No smell. Then it went back to normal, a quiet hum. I looked back at my computer screen.

A second later, out of the corner of my eye I saw light at the window. Either outside, or inside the glass of the window (not in the room yet) – I couldn’t really know. I looked at it with interest, thinking, there was probably lightning forming there. In another second the light had formed into a sort of oblong light tube as it began coming through the solid glass window. It was just inches in, then maybe two to three feet of this bubble of white light came into the room near my feet. It formed up into a sphere about 8 inches in diameter, I’d estimate. I dared not move, I just watched it.

So after it slipped into the room like a long bubble it just morphed into a perfect sphere (ball) of light. It was about 5 feet off the ground and 3 feet from the window. It did not bob up and down. The edges of the sphere did not move, like expand or contract. It was just a perfect sphere.

It was silent. This ball didn’t appear to be made up of electricity from the air conditioner. It was not from any wires – none were exposed. It was just all the suddenly in the room with me. It was the size of a small volleyball.

There was no odor. The ball of light did not pulse or change in intensity, it was steadily very bright. I felt no heat or cold during the incident. I saw no traces of it on the window, curtains, ceiling, walls, or pillar. There was no smell at all. Later as I checked the window and the curtain, which it appeared to touch on the way in – no damage at all.

It was very bright, but didn’t hurt the eyes. It reminded me of looking at a very bright snow-bank, and yet I was still able to stare right at it without hurting my eyes. I saw no details in the light, it was just solid and evenly bright, and not seeming to light up the room at all, it was sort of contained within itself. It was the purest white I have ever seen. I remember almost marveling at it because it was of a texture, a material that I had never seen before in my life.

I think there was a humming noise which might have been the air conditioner struggling to continue working.

After the orb formed, it moved another foot toward the bottom of my bed in the same direction it had taken after coming through the window. Then it changed direction and moved toward the head of the bed and my head – about one to two feet.

It remained motionless there as I stared intensely at it. The light orb was maybe one meter (39 inches) away from my face. I was absolutely transfixed by it. I couldn’t move and my mind didn’t think except to marvel at it. It felt like the most lucid moment of my life.

Then, somehow I became aware of the fact that it wasn’t there anymore. I guess it disappeared because I don’t remember it leaving, it was just gone.

My mind kicked into gear and I slammed my computer screen shut and yanked out the cord from the A/C outlet. I shut off the air conditioner with the remote and dove behind the other side of the bed, where I cowered for a while.

I still feel a tingling inside me, though maybe it’s just my nerves still firing.

One of the oddest things ever…

I just researched it online and found out that sometimes ball lightning explodes and kills people close by. Other times, it goes away silently.

I’m still tingling all over… It has been about an hour since the experience happened. I am rather afraid to go to the window to film a video about how it all went down, yet I know I must. I’m half hoping to see it again and get it on video. I am trying to replicate the situation, with all the variables the same as much as possible. There seems to be another storm coming in.

I considered going down into the lobby and sleeping there that night. But, I was half-afraid I’d miss it coming back. I was amazed by it, but a bit fearful too. I’d never had anything like this in my life.

Update – Almost two years later to the day and I haven’t seen anything else like this. I’ve often kept my video camera ready to shoot as I worked in my upstairs bedroom where I have an air conditioner running above the window. I really hope to see another of these some day. When I do, I will shoot some video if possible, and then run up and stick my hand or head into the white light.

So, if something happens to me and the world thinks I was a victim of spontaneous human combustion, you can tell them the stupid thing I did.

Ball Lightning Resources:

A reports database. I filed one here, it hasn’t been moderated yet. There are hundreds of reports. I didn’t see any that seemed like a person wrote it just for the attention, or for nefarious reasons: Ball Lightning Reports Database

This guy looks at 130 ball lightning first-hand reports and tries to deduce some information about them.

Wikipedia entry on Ball Lightning

Other weird lightning experiences I’ve had:

1. My airplane flying over North Carolina in a wicked summer thunderstorm, was hit by lightning on the right wing. I was seated right behind that wing. Every passenger was dead silent, as was the plane as all systems shut down – all engines. Just before we all started panicking and screaming, the lights flickered, came back on… we heard the engines start again. The pilot said absolutely nothing. It mattered little, everyone on the plane knew exactly what happened. The sound was like someone had just dropped a cement truck on the wing from 1,000 feet.

2. After climbing a mountain in Thailand one time, a series of about fifty lightning bolts hit the top of the mountain as I ran around looking for a safe place to hide from it. One bolt hit about twelve feet away, and two more came within twenty-five feet. It was quite scary.

3. Also on that same mountain… I was at the top walking around, there was a storm about four miles away, we could see it plainly. Suddenly I felt every hair on my body stand up – and me and the other person at the top was enveloped in an electrical force field of some sort – I fully expected to be hit by a lightning bolt. Instead, I watched as a very strong bolt formed in the clouds making up the storm some miles away. The bolt was so strong, it energized everything even that many miles from where it hit. I was taking a photo of the storm at the same instant I felt this weird electric charge. See the photo and story here – Lightning Story.

Below are the comments I received on the video and some other people share their experiences with things that could maybe be ball lightning, maybe ghosts, maybe aliens… who knows what each person saw?

I had a similar experience one night at home while I was living in Jamaica. My husband at the time and I were just sitting on the second floor veranda staring at the stars, no rain, good weather, just a nice night and we noticed a bright star in the distance and we’re admiring it, even joking around that it was like the star at Jesus birth, maybe we should follow it, and then I said it’s probably an airplane over Ochio Rios about an hour away and then it went out and we were disappointed and then it lit up again and we watched it come all the way to us and I was freaked! It didn’t come in our house but did come face to face with us at eye level probably 20 feet away, my husband stood there praising The Lord and I ran through the house to the opposite side looked out the window and it came down in front of me and I ran again to the opposite side and did this 2-3 times and then an aeroplane came over and it disappeared into the wing. This experience happened in the early 90’s and left me questioning to this day 2014. The light ball we seen was about the size of a beach ball and was beautiful clean white light possibly some blue in it but like you said the colour of a camera flash, it made no noise and could hover and move at its own direction, I was terrified and I don’t know if I was generating some kind of energy that made it follow me but it did. A lot of times I wonder what would have happened if I wasn’t afraid, but I had no idea what it was at all. I still question the purpose, or if it’s a weather phenomena or what it really is. I would like to meet one again and hopefully I can control my adrenaline and not be afraid. But very, very interesting.

cool Linda! thanks for shariing that. I think many things that people see are attributed to Ball LIghtning, but, some of them are not that… it’s something else. Mine was light… cool, soundless, glowing and not shining, perfectly round, and perfectly still hovering in the air there near the hotel bed. I think plasma moves inside and physically in diff. locations, not hovers… most ball lightning flashes and makes sounds. Most happens AFTER a lightning strike… none of these apply to my experience, and maybe not yours either. Anyway – thanks!

Because all the sudden there is this idea in my head that it might have been something from another dimension, an alien, a ghost, a demon, something. Who knows what it was. My mind was never open to that idea before this. When it’s hovering there 3 feet from your face and it’s something you’ve never imagined or heard about, it’s quite a game changer… perspective changes in an instant.

I’ve now read hundreds of experiences of “ball lightning”. My experience doesn’t conform to those descriptions. Mine wasn’t ball lightning, I am pretty confident in saying that, or, it isn’t of the sort that most people experience.

go to Surat Thani, Leam Sai hotel. 5th floor. I think it was room 502. Gotta check that. And wait for a storm… or, just turn on the air to the settings I had – and wait. It must be recurring. Why not?

Utterly incredible, but given the unpredictability of ball lightning, I’m not sure if I envy you or not!

It probably is more common than we think, but 7 10ths of the Earth is water, population is spread out unevenly, and of those that occur in a populated area there’s no guarantee it’s seen, much less filmed. We maybe get footage of every one in a thousand if we’re lucky

Great report – made me feel like I was there in the room with it. Don’t know if you heard, but scientists Jianyong Cen, Ping Yuan and Simin Xue from Northwest Normal University, China, have just published the first-ever detailed observation of natural ball lightning, and it lends support to a theory for explaining it based on the interaction of lightning bolts and soil.

No lightning or soil around me here. Five floors up off the concrete in this hotel room. I think what I had here was not ball lightning… I’m almost ready to say it was supernatural… lol. Don’t know what else it could have been. A ghost? A demon? A spirit? An alien? Something from another dimension? Anyone’s guess is as good as mine, but it doesn’t fit the specs for ball lightning, at all.

No color change at all. Solid white like the white in a comic book. It was not sparkling, it was not flashing or pulsing. It was completely solid white. I felt nothing after it disappeared. But in a couple seconds I felt fear like the room was going to explode because I thought it was ball lightning. I don’t think it was anything like lightning now. Alien, ghost, something like this. I have never believed in any of that nonsense… and then this happens and how do I explain it? It looked nothing like ball lightning that other people are describing, except how it moved and how it came through the window. :)

The only sound was the growling of the air conditioner as it came into the room, like it was turning on and off over and over… but from the light shape itself? Nothing. Not a sound, crackle, nothing at all. Really the strangest thing ever.

I believe your story. Very similar to what me and 3 others witnessed about 30 years ago when I was a kid. As you said, it was white about the size of a volley ball. It had a sparking and humming sound. In our case it came in through the front window of my childhood home, moved continuously at about 4 feet above the floor, it made a diagonal direction change and down a narrow hallway and went out a rear bedroom window. Approximately a 60 foot path. I can’t be sure how fast it occurred because I was frozen like you. I remember it in slow motion. No damage to anything. Then a shorter occurrence just minutes later in the dining room when one came in through a window and exited out an adjacent window. I was terrified for two more days until the storm weather stopped. It definitely seemed to move like it was under intelligent control. The craziest thing I’ve ever experienced.

Wow cool! When you were looking at it – did you think it was looking at you? I asked myself that the other day. I didn’t get the feeling that it was, it was just there and maybe it was just there for me to look at, not sure. I didn’t attribute anything intelligent to it at the time, but could have been, no idea.

You’re lucky you knew what it was. Me having no idea until today I would have freaked out more, not realizing it is a natural phenomenon, like a UFO or ghost, though I don’t believe in that stuff. But did it go through the window? I would have thought that it would electrocute and dissipate what it made contact into.

I been close to lightning strikes and I can tell about the smell.
Its a very strong odor, kind of bitter, the close thing to compare it is the smell that comes from the back of an old TV set.

hi Tam, yeah, that’s weird! The more I consider my experience, it doesn’t seem like ball lightning. I’ve seen some of the balls on youtube – people have actually filmed them. Mine was more like a cartoon type image. It was uhhm, white with very clear borders. No mistiness. No blur. Though it appeared round, it morphed from like a blob coming through the window, into a circle. I figured it had depth like a volleyball, but I couldn’t see that it was 3D. Could have been, and looked more, like 2D

Ball lightning is extremely dangerous. It will be going towards power lines. And most likely cause a minor black out. Though if the wall is thick enough it will simply implode on it self. Its most likely it will implode on itself after touching anything. But the center of the sphere has a frightening temperature and will most likely kill anything touching its center instantly.

Though there is a way to stop it. But it has risks. I’d recommend to just avoid it and have a large space between you and the phenomenon. You could attempt to block its way with some tool. If its small you can use a frying pan. But do not use a tool that is dear to you, because when it comes in contact with your tool the tool will crack. And you might get minor burns on your skin. It also has a small chance to Explode instead of imploding on itself. That only happens if its bright enough.

A cream colored sphere flew about 15 foot above my house and right over our heads and up the street till it wasn’t visIble. I was searching glowing balls of light right now after thinking about it. So does anyone think this could have been ball lightening and I can out my mind at ease on what we really seen?
